Creating BreezyBeez: Dedicated to Natural Living

For many years, I experienced allergies, sensitivities, and other issues without knowing the cause. In the business of life, I ignored and shrugged off what my body was trying to tell me. After much time and some transformative life moments, I decided change was needed. I delved into the issues I was experiencing through hospital visits, testing, research, and, most importantly, by listening to my body. It took longer than I hoped for, but I grew through the process of finding an explanation. The answer was synthetic fragrance, a word filled with indistinct and undisclosed chemical ingredients.

The Issue with Fragrance

Fragrance is present in a wide array of consumer products, such as:

• Personal care items (perfumes, cosmetics, shampoos, soaps, deodorants)

• Household goods (cleaners, laundry products, air fresheners, candles)

• Foods and drinks

You can identify fragrances by checking product labels, where they are often listed as "fragrance," "parfum," or "aroma chemicals." A look at almost any personal care or cleaning product label will likely reveal it contains one or more fragrance chemicals. According to the International Fragrance Association, over 3,500 fragrance chemicals are in use today, and exposure to some can lead to numerous health problems. However, companies aren't obligated to disclose the specific ingredients in a product's fragrance blend. Fragrance chemicals are not harmless; exposure can lead to various health issues. They can disrupt the hormonal system, and some, like phthalates, can damage the reproductive system. Styrene, another fragrance chemical, is associated with cancer. Fragrance chemicals can also trigger allergic reactions in both children and adults.
